Which of the following movies does M like?

Question

Accepted Answer

Step-by-step deduction:

1. There are 7 experience positions ordered least to most: $1$ Admin, $2$ Production, $3$ Marketing, $4$ HR, $5$ Finance, $6$ R&D, $7$ CR.

2. "Only two persons have less experience than K" ⇒ K is at position $3$ (Marketing).

3. P works in R&D ⇒ P is at position $6$.

4. HR (position $4$) is more experienced than both L and N, and N is not least. Therefore L and N must occupy positions $1$ and $2$, with N not being least ⇒ N at $2$ (Production) and L at $1$ (Admin).

5. The person in Production (position $2$) is less experienced than the person who likes Hero. So Hero must be at position $>2$.

6. The one who likes Wanted is more experienced than K (>$3$) but less than the one who likes Jumanji; Wanted is not in Finance (not position $5$). Possible for Wanted: $4$ or $7$, but it cannot be $7$ (no higher position for Jumanji), so Wanted is at $4$ (HR). Hence HR (pos $4$) likes Wanted.

7. P (pos $6$) neither likes Wanted nor Jumanji, and J (who likes Twilight) is more experienced than K, so J cannot be at $4$ or $6$. Remaining slots above $3$ are $5$ and $7$. M is more experienced than J, so M must be at $7$ and J at $5$.

8. J at $5$ (Finance) likes Twilight. Jumanji must be higher than Wanted (pos $4$) and cannot be $5$ or $6$ (P not Jumanji), so Jumanji is at $7$ ⇒ M at $7$ likes Jumanji.

9. Hero must be at a position $>2$ and not $3$ (K does not like Hero), and $4,5,7$ are taken, so Hero must be at $6$ ⇒ P (pos $6$) likes Hero.

10. Remaining movies for positions $1,2,3$ are Gladiator, Dread, Signs. Signs must be more experienced than N (pos $2$), so Signs is at pos $3$ ⇒ K (pos $3$) likes Signs. L (pos $1$) does not like Dread, so L at $1$ likes Gladiator and N at $2$ likes Dread.

Final assignments (pos: Person — Dept — Movie):
- $1$: L — Admin — Gladiator
- $2$: N — Production — Dread
- $3$: K — Marketing — Signs
- $4$: O — HR — Wanted
- $5$: J — Finance — Twilight
- $6$: P — R&D — Hero
- $7$: M — CR — Jumanji

Therefore M likes Jumanji (option 1).
