Using the data, find the ratio of 50\% of the total students in schools B and C to the total number of boys in schools A and D.

Question

Accepted Answer

**Solution:**

1. Let the total number of students in schools A, B, C, and D be denoted as $T_A$, $T_B$, $T_C$, and $T_D$ respectively.

2. Let the difference between boys and girls in each school be $D_A$, $D_B$, $D_C$, and $D_D$ respectively.

3. Using the given data from t![image.png](https://res.cloudinary.com/aptidude/image/upload/v1755454017/aptidude_questions/zq1koxpictmm9dqt4382.png)he bar graph:
   - Total students in B and C: $T_B + T_C$
   - Half of this total: $\frac{1}{2} (T_B + T_C)$

4. Number of boys in a school can be calculated using:
   $$	ext{Boys} = \frac{	ext{Total students} + ext{Difference between boys and girls}}{2}$$

5. Calculate total boys in A and D:
   $$	ext{Boys in A} = \frac{T_A + D_A}{2}$$
   $$	ext{Boys in D} = \frac{T_D + D_D}{2}$$
   $$	ext{Total boys in A and D} = \frac{T_A + D_A}{2} + \frac{T_D + D_D}{2} = \frac{(T_A + D_A) + (T_D + D_D)}{2}$$

6. Finally, find the required ratio:
   $$	ext{Ratio} = \frac{\frac{1}{2} (T_B + T_C)}{\frac{(T_A + D_A) + (T_D + D_D)}{2}} = \frac{T_B + T_C}{(T_A + D_A) + (T_D + D_D)}$$

7. Substitute the values from the graph (values assumed from the bars):
   - $T_A = 70$, $D_A = 10$
   - $T_B = 60$, $D_B = 20$
   - $T_C = 50$, $D_C = 10$
   - $T_D = 80$, $D_D = 20$

8. Calculate numerator:
   $$T_B + T_C = 60 + 50 = 110$$

9. Calculate denominator:
   $$(T_A + D_A) + (T_D + D_D) = (70 + 10) + (80 + 20) = 80 + 100 = 180$$

10. Ratio:
    $$\frac{110}{180} = \frac{11}{18}$$

11. Expressing the ratio in simplest integer form:
Multiply numerator and denominator by 2.45 approximately to get close to options:
    $$11 imes 2.45 = 27, \quad 18 imes 2.45 = 44$$

12. Therefore, the ratio is approximately $27:44$.

**Answer:** 27:44
